About

Kathleen Shaver is an abstract painter. She also makes drawings and sculpture. Shaver lives and works in the Hudson Valley area of New York where she is surrounded by mountains, fields, forests, lakes and streams.

Kathleen Shaver’s art investigates an embodied experience of the world. Her interest is in the sensory perceptions of our lived bodies and the ways in which language and our intellect mediate these perceptions, inserting concepts, symbols, narratives and mythologies . Grounded in the materiality of pigment, plaster, wood, or charcoal, Shaver explores the the ways these perceptions can reveal a kind of primordial awareness, an attunement characterized by wonder and discovery, that challenges our intellectual framing of the world.

Kathleen Shaver’s work has been included in a major survey of contemporary Philadelphia artists at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and in exhibits with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Woodmere Art Museum, the James A. Michener Art Museum, Attleboro Arts Museum, The State Museum of Pennsylvania, The University of Maryland Art Gallery and Moore College of Art & Design.
